Dr. habil. László F. Őrfi Ph.D. is Associate Professor of the Department of Pharmaceutical Chemistry, Vice Dean of Faculty of Pharmacy at  Semmelweis University, Budapest. He had been graduated as M.Sc. organic chemist  at  József Attila University of Sciences, Szeged. He wrote his diploma thesis  about regioselective reactions of steroids. He joined to the teaching staff of. the Department of Pharmaceutical Chemistry in 1982. He earned his Ph.D. and completed his habilitation in Pharmacy Sciences at Semmelweis University. Beside teaching at laboratory practices and giving lectures to pharmacy students, Dr.Őrfi performed successful research in the field of drug discovery documented by more than 100 scientific papers in respected journals, and by 52 pharmaceutical patents as their inventor. During the past years he was supervisor of the diploma work of 25 graduate students and has mentored eight Ph.D. students. Dr.Őrfi is member of the Hungarian Chemical Society, the Hungarian Pharmaceutical Society,and the American Chemical Society, he was one of the founders of the Hungarian Chapter of ACS. Dr. Őrfi was awarded by the Hungarian Ministry of Education and Culture with Széchenyi Professorship, got a Special Joined Award of the Soros Foundation and Semmelweis University, and obtained the Award of the dr. Mozsonyi Sándor Foundation for Teaching Pharmacy Dr. Őrfi has more than 30 years experience in medicinal chemistry (organic synthesis, heterocyclic chemistry, parallel (“combinatorial”) synthesis, computational chemistry, and drug analysis). He was visiting scientist in the USA three times. For eight years he had been Director of Medicinal Chemistry in the Rational Drug Design Laboratories Cooperation Research Center of Semmelweis University. He worked as external scientific advisor for numerous pharmaceutical and research companies (MPI, Axxima Pharmaceuticals, GPC Biotech, Gedeon Richter, Chinoin(Sanofi-Aventis), EGIS(Servier), Pharmavit, Compudrug, Comgenex, Compelit, Biosignal Ltd (Sugen) and Biostatin Ltd) and the Hungarian Patent Office. He is co-founder of Vichem Chemie Research Ltd., and as VP of Chemistry  he is supervising medicinal chemistry of the drug discovery and development projects at the company.
